Freqently Asked Questions
Question: I am interested in replacing my mercury fillings. Do I need a consultation?
Answer: Yes, you do need a consultation.  We call it a "New Patient Care Exam".  The appointment is approximately 2 hours in length.  A thorough head, neck, and oral examinations are performed; including oral cancer screening with 'Velscope technology' and a Dark Field Microscopic examination of bacteria in your mouth.  A number of our lead clinicians are involved in the New Patient Examination experience at The Evans Center.  Radiographs (various x-rays images) will be taken. A team consisting of the Dentist, the Registered Dental Hygienist and a Certified Dental Assistant will conduct the examination and appropriate chart notation.  A Registered Nurse or Medical technician may assist with some aspects of the clinical examination.

Question: Can you tell me the cost to replace old mercury fillings?
Answer: Without adequate information it would be misleading and unethical to give you an estimate of the costs.  Following the New Patient Care Examination, we will discuss our clinical findings with you.  At this point, we will be better able to provide an accurate estimate of the costs of a dental revision (removing your mercury fillings and replacing them with a more biocompatible material).  Should you choose to proceed with the dental revision, you can arrange the necessary appointments with Our Treatment Coordinator.

Question:
As I do not have dental insurance can you please give me an approximate price for the consultation?
Answer:
Please call our office for the current cost of the New Patient Care Examination, including radiographs, oral cancer screening, blood pressure screening, “In Office” testing and consultation.  Not to be coy, but our costs change from time to time and we want to give you accurate information.

Question: Will you work with my insurance company for payment of your fees?
Answer:
We are advised to avoid 3rd Party payment by the Alberta Dental Association.  There are legal ramifications if we accept direct payment from your insurance company.  For these legal reasons, we do not accept assignment of benefits from insurance companies (meaning we do not accept payment from your insurance company).  However, we are happy to help you with insurance forms and submissions with either hard copies or electronic submissions.

Question: How can I make an appointment in the Evans Centre?
Answer:
Because of the nature of our work, our services are in very high demand. Each month, we reserve several appointments for new clients. In order to secure this appointment for you, we require your credit card information, Visa, MasterCard, Bank Debit Card or Certified Personal Cheques.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call. We can be reached Mon-Thursday from 7am - 5pm & Friday 8am - 2pm at 403-286-2622 or Toll Free at 1-800-558-4416.
